The XBroker: I was Meme'd about me too

I was Meme'd about me too

By Brian Brady....Thanks Brian, I was looking for something else to do ;)

OK, 5 things most people (on this stage) probably don't know about me:

1) Im typically very quiet and 'soft-spoken' or 'hard to hear', quite the contrast to my 'online voice'.  Some call me shy, others mistake it for being aloof.  I think it's partially due to the crazy thoughts that go through my head,  It's not hard for me to get in a detailed discussion with myself ;)  My dad told me its ok to talk softly, just carry a big stick (Teddy Roosevelt, I believe)

2) I have ADD...BAD.   Wasn't diagnosed until I was 30..my doctor thought it to be quite amazing that I made it through grammar school school, let alone college based on my test score.  I was one of those kids who made an A in whatever I was interested in (math and science, especially the Biology's), there were many classes I didn't even need take notes in.  On the other hand, Art, History of the Bronze Age, Literature, and Poetry were not my strong points..I managed quite a few 'suspect' C minuses.  I had perfect attendance, just couldn't pay attention long enough to retain anything.  Anywhoo, Im better at paying attention to 'boring' stuff now :)

3)  I played semi-pro soccer, as a keeper (goalie), and managed to:  Blow both my knees out, break my collarbone, break my ankles (a few times), dislocated my 9 fingers (never my thumb) about 10 times each, and suffered concussions on 2 occasions that were severe enough that I didn't remember the 12 or so hours post impact.  I still feel good enough to play basketball, baseball, tennis, and golf though; top notch doctors I guess.  Oh yeah, I was timed at 4.38 in a 40 yard dash when I was 27...and for some reason I am very proud of that?  There's never an opportunity to tell people that without sounding like that pathetic dude who still talks about high-school glory days...

4) I traveled around Europe by myself for two weeks while in college and never told my parents.  They still don't know ;)

5)  Im afraid of heights (although Ive bungied in the Swiss Alps, and jumped out of a flying plane) and hate driving over long bridges....

I wont pay this forward, as I see most everyone I know has already been tagged :(

I was wondering when you were going to post your meme!  Soccer player - that's AMAZING!! I'm a huge soccer fan and my 12 year old son is awesome (but now that I hear about your broken bones, maybe I won't push it as much). ...and about your parents Jeff......they may find out now.

You look like a 'keeper', Jeff (and I'm sure that's true in more than just a futbol...er, soccer, sense)!

Jeff C...   first off, you do have that goalie soccer look.  I guess it's that shaved look, with a light shadow, and the mock turtle neck. When I last watched the world cup, there were several players with this look. And nothing wrong with it. It is appealing.  Little FYI.. I played soccer for 8 years and one year, I blew a chance to play on a traveling team that went to France for a whole month. I got cocky because I was older and the younger ones out hustled me. You brought back memories that I forgot about. I even refereed for a year when I was 16... now that was fun.

Brian told me about you being shy and I can see that you have a strong voice online.

Last... #4.... that's awesome. Talk about being daring. I am jealous...  where did you go to college?

Overall.... thanks for sharing.

Jeff C.

Nice to see more about the man behind the X.  I figured you for a soccer player with that picture.  When I was growing up, I played on the traveling team, but never pursued it once I got to high school.  Ironically, I am now coaching soccer here locally.

Regarding fear of heights.  I didn't mention it in my meme post, but I am also afraid of heights, and while i don't jump out of planes, I do fly them.  I haven't bungied and probably won't but I have wanted to face my fear and go skydiving.  Actually, my brother is taking me to one of those indoor places this weekend as a Christmas present.  I know its not the same, but its a start.

Thanks for sharing.

A 4.38 second 40?  That's good enough for the NFL!

FWIW...Jeff C. went to Syracuse...which means we'll probably be arguing again come March.

Jeff, I will admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the meme's. But I saw yours and had to read it. It is actually very nice to learn more about the personal side of the folks here at ActiveRain. Thanks for taking the time to share!

"X"...Hubba! Hubba! Wink. Wink. :)

1. Quiet and Soft spoken. I know better. You'll have to sell me on that one. :)

2. We have discussed that. I may have it too. :) I ditched class every chance I had. Still got A's. :)

3. Hubba! Hubba! 4-Wheeling is NEXT. :)

4. I ran away from home at 16 and my parents still don't realize I am gone. SVW (smiling very wide)

5. I once jumped out of a moving car (going about 40 mph) on a dare. I fear nothing. Imagine that. :)

Ginger...heavy drugs and an electric node embedded in my brain that shocks me back into attention ;)

TLW, I gotta hear the 'jumped out of a moving car' story...

Thx for the mention Nick....:)

Broken bones, ouch...

Jeff - I'm afraid of heights too... which is surprising considering that I used to live in High Rises and play roof top ditch on the smaller buildings... or perhaps that's why!

"Oh yeah, I was timed at 4.38 in a 40 yard dash when I was 27...and for some reason I am very proud of that?  There's never an opportunity to tell people that without sounding like that pathetic dude who still talks about high-school glory days..."

It was probably pretty pathetic to be in High School at 27, but you star athletes... (LOL)

Well okay then. It went down like this. When I was 17 I was out 'car partying' with the some friends. You know how that is. :) Somehow we all started talking about jumping out of cars. One of the guys decided to give us ladies a hard time by saying we would never jump out of a moving car. Yah. Right. This was one of those 'you wouldn't do it because you're a girl' things. You know me well enough to know how I feel about that. :) I kinda got 'into' with him and basically said 'screw you'. When I did this to him he dared me to jump out of the car. So I did. I did a leap into the woods and landed with a nice tuck and roll. When my friends stopped to get me they gave me the rest of the beer. :) I wouldn't recommend jumping out of a moving car without knowing how to tuck and roll. I would also suggest a six pack before you take that leap. I call that canned courage. :) Now for anyone that does not know me I am much much older now. But if you offer up a good dare I may just take you up on it for your amusement or for mine. LOL. Oh. By the way I don't drink. I do my dares sober now a days. No canned courage required. :) TLW...ROAR!

Thanks for the great MEME...and, as a mom of a goalie ( and an F-licensed travel soccer coach ) I am alittle frightened that you travelled to Europe without your parents knowledge ( now that I am a mom...) ... ;)

"Quiet" and "soft-spoken"?  I just think you're trying to come across as the 2008 version of Alan Alda.  Whatever the reason, it certainly seems to be working for you!

I'm new to Active Rain and trying to learn a few things.  So far, all I know how to do is leave responses to others' blogs.  I'm actually a home stager but can't figure out how to get over to those posts.  In the meantime, could you answer a few questions?

  1. What is "meme'd"?  How will I know if it's happened to me?
  2. What does "pay this forward" mean?  Is it sort of like putting something on lay-a-way?
  3. How is someone "tagged"?  When it happens, are you instantly aware of it?  Does it hurt?
  4. And my most burning question...  Is everyone else out there bringing in business while we sit here and blog?

Any help you could offer would be most appreciated.

This is a test.  I'm trying to figure out why my name didn't show up in blue on my post above.  This time, I'm leaving the "Name" spot blank.  Thanks for your patience.

PS - Am I allowed to do this?

Hi Patsy, Look up at the top. If it says 'join' you're not logged in. If it says 'log out' or 'Home' you are.  You can go to the help/FAQ group to see a bunch of good posts.

I had totally forgotten that I actually shared that story with anyone in the Rain :)

It's still funny as hell when I think about it :)

So is telling people to fluck off when I'm in the mood :)
